The CNR-ISTM has the following facilities:
The HPC Grid is completed by an IBM Datacenter, SAN centric, virtualized infrastructure implementing storage, networking and tape library services. The infrastructure is powered by a 40Kw Uninterruptible Power Supply, deployed behind a virtualized firewall, on an Internet connected, private, gigabit switched network.
- Wide range of ab initio simulation toolboxes for calculations on complex systems and interfaces, including specifically tailored computer codes for ab initio molecular dynamics simulations and inclusion of relativistic effects.
- Intel clusters: 1032 CPUs, 7 Tbyte memory, infiniband connection.
- 8 Fermi GPUs (32 Gb memory)
- HP Pentium dual/quad core cluster: 96 CPUs, 350 Gbytes memory
Master-UP has developed a prototype apparatus for producing and storing carbon neutral methane using energy obtained from renewable sources.
The ProGeo apparatus operates as in the scheme below,
and is made of the following components:
A) an innovative electrolyser producing H2 by optimising the yield/cost ratio,
B) a methanation reactor producing CH4 from CO2 by-product of agricultural/industrial activities,
C) a clathrate hydrate storage technology of methane (if not distributed by pipes or bottles) can be used for distribution at fridge temperature (5° C).
